Julia Clukey Courage Award
Olympian Julia Clukey is proud to partner with local community leaders and school administrators to present the Julia Clukey Courage Award. The award honors students from across Maine for their outstanding courage. Now, more than ever, middle and high school students face many different decisions and responsibilities. The Julia Clukey Courage Award is designed to recognize Maine students of all abilities for their courage in areas such as reaching their full potential, accomplishing personal goals, demonstrating leadership or overcoming adversity, just like Julia.
The award is not performance based. When selecting a recipient, school administrators can define courage any way they would like.
The principal or school administrator who schedules Julia’s presentation will also select the award recipient. On the scheduled presentation date, Julia, along with members of the local community, including local legislators, will present the award.
As part of the ceremony, the administrator will share the story of the student deserving of the Julia Clukey Courage Award. The student will be recognized in front of the student body and presented with the award. Photos from the ceremony will also be sent to local media to showcase the hard work of the student and the school’s positive impact on students.
The award can be used to reward any student for any type of courage. Here are different ways schools have decided on their student for the Julia Clukey Courage Award:
- Making a positive decision that has impacted the student’s future goals (academics, sports, arts, etc.)
- Putting others first, a decision that leads to the success or benefit of other classmates or a charity
- Ability to overcome adversity or challenge
- Accomplishing a goal or major milestone
- Demonstrating an ability to do what is right and staying strong when outside influences encourage other options
To nominate a student and schedule a presentation from Olympian Julia Clukey at your school, please complete this form. Schools are contacted within 2-3 days of submitting the form.
